Sudeshna Rana is an independent writer, editor, researcher and poet working at the intersections of print and digital media. South Asia Speaks Foundation awarded her a creative non-fiction fellowship in 2022 and a bursary in 2025 to support her ongoing work investigating the history of the mining town of Dhanbad, where she grew up.
Her non-fiction writings on gender, culture, and ecology have appeared in Shared Ecologies, Polyester Zine, Smashboard, Feminism in India, Paper Planes, Cocoa & Jasmine Magazine and The Chakkar; poetry and short stories in The Shape of A Poem: The Red River Book Of Contemporary Erotic Poetry, Usawa Literary Review, Narrow Road Journal Vol 11, and Yaari: An Anthology on Friendship by Women and Queer Folx; and is a regular contributor to ArteSpace: an E-Journal of the Arts.
She is the co-founder of Poorvanchal aur Palayan, a digital archive that documents the migration stories of East India, which won the Serendipity Virtual Arts Grant in 2023. Most recently, she was the co-recipient of 10×10 Research Grants: Cycle 3 (2024-2025) to conduct a collaborative study of 21st-century photobook and photographic publishing practices in South Asia in the post-digital era. Her scholarly interests include digital humanities, visual culture and eco-feminism.
