Nadja Stoller. Alchemy

Nadja Stoller solo.

In her solo programme, Bernese singer
Nadja Stoller combines accordion, banjo,
and keytar with her experiences as a street
musician in Paris. Sometimes carefree,
sometimes wistful, always intimate, and
never glitzy or sugar-coated: Nadja Stoller’s
“Alchemy” radiates a strange—in the best
sense of the word—magic.

national following for many years, particularly in
Switzerland, Sweden, and Ireland.

The Bow Triplets draws from the rich treasure
trove of traditional Irish music as well as from all
aspects of Celtic music; the group also writes its

SPITTIN’ HORNS

A fresh breeze is blowing through—and enriching
—the Swiss jazz scene. This saxophone quartet
lead by Barbara Wehrli Wutzl blasts, howls, and
purrs up a storm.

It’s been less than five years since the spitting
horns of Barbara Wehrli Wutzl, Christoph Grab,
Reto Suhner, and Thomi Geiger first joined
musical forces—and they don’t disappoint.

“instants modifies” with the Mondrian Ensemble

Guest performer: double base player John Eckhardt
from Hamburg

It usually hides away amongst other treasures;
it’s not big on blowing its own horn; but those who
hear it are not liable to forget it too quickly. We’re
talking about the music of Winterthur composer
Franz Furrer-Münch, who passed away in 2010.
At this portrait concert, the Mondrian Ensemble
and Hamburg-based double bass player John
Eckhardt will perform three samples from Furrer-
Münch’s large oeuvre—interwoven with the
“Fantasiestücke” (Fantasy Pieces), Op. 88, by
Robert Schumann, Furrer-Münch’s “adopted
kindred spirit.”

Antonio Malinconico ed Amici

Plea for Passion

For Malinconico’s acoustic trio, “tempesta”
is more than a nice-sounding word; in fact,
the storm leitmotif, in all its shades and
nuances, is omnipresent in these sensitively
arranged original compositions. Those who
like to think in clearly defined music categories
will have a hard time docking the sounds of this
perfectly matched trio in a secure, stylistic port.
Instead Malinconico’s music lives and breathes
a cosmopolitanism that only a true wayfarer
possesses. Quite simply, “Tempesta” is a
musical plea for passion; an invitation to all
who wish to be tempted or moved by a journey
around the world, even if only for the duration
of a rain dance.
