History / Purpose Doris Sträuli-Keller, Winterthur music educator and patron, established the Sulzberg
Foundation in 1999. In accordance with the wishes of the founder and her now-deceased
husband, Dr. Hans Sträuli Jr., their villa as well as their estate are to serve in the promotion
of the arts.

The work residencies (financed through grants) are intended to provide artists and art
professionals from all fields with a stimulating environment in which to work and meet
others in the arts. Most of all, the residencies are designed to promote intercultural
exchange. That is the reason why the studios can't be given to artists living in Switzerland.

The Sulzberg Foundation provides three studio/living spaces for artists in the Villa Sträuli:
one for the visual arts, one for literature and new media, and one for the performing arts
and music.

Two studios are awarded at the same time for residencies of 5 1/2 months in length; one
studio is granted upon application for shorter projects. The studios are available to artists
and art professionals of all disciplines and backgrounds.

If a studio is not occupied it may also be rented upon application as a living/working space
for a short-term stay (for example, by guest artists in Winterthur).
